ChickenWired is a unique medium of art that can be brought to the classroom to inspire creativity and imagination from first hand observation and experience, explore materials, tools and techniques and develop design ideas.
School visits/ workshops includes a display of sculptures that the students are encouraged to examine and analyse, a talk explaining the
processes and techniques, and the students are then encouraged to create a sculpture, either from tutorials provided or to their own
design and from their own imagination. Workshops generally last a full day, half and multi-day workshops can be arranged. Prices are dependent on size but are around £300 per day.
Materials can also be provided.
13mm galvanised chickenwire is the preferred medium, however for younger students, PVC coated wire is available for use. This is easier to use. Galvanised wire available at £2.00 per student, PVC £1.00. In preparation for lessons, each student is provided a piece of wire from
which to work from, (1m x 1m galvanised, 750 x 500mm PVC) additional wire is available should it be required.
The only tools that are required are small wire cutters and bent nosed pliers as shown. These are supplied for workshops.
The workshops have been found to be absorbing and rewarding.
