The Great, Great Plague & Great Fire Show is an interactive one-man show for primary schools about two of the most famous events in Britain’s history – the Great Plague of 1665 and the Great Fire of London of 1666. It is brought to you by the same company that runs the acclaimed Tales of Plague and Tales of Fire and is perfect for Key Stage 1 or 2.

“A brilliant way to get the children excited about history.” Teacher Mr Peters from Maryland Primary School, Stratford

Our expertly researched, humorous 60-70 minute show opens with our 17th Century peasant, Alfie, and his pet rat, Robert Watts, in front of a range of projected images as the audience is immersed into smelly Restoration London. Alfie then provides a vivid insight into life in the time of plague before making way for the weirdly wonderful Plague Doctor who will open up his surgery to certain members of the class and test a few of his ‘cures’...

Halfway through Alfie disappears to be replaced by the famous Samuel Pepys. This extravagantly dressed, amusingly pompous individual will move the action on a year and bring to life the Great Fire of London, telling the story through illustrations and a host of props. He will also call on the whole audience to help him re-enact one of the days of the fire.

Following the show Alfie/Samuel Pepys will spend time answering questions and expanding on any aspect of the plague and the fire which the class is particularly interested in – often leading to further areas of study for the teachers.

“Your show was well resourced, well thought through and really stimulating for the children. It was a fantastic event. Thank you!” Teacher Catherine Hughes from Northlands, Basildon
