Living history company Tales of Plague invites you to enjoy one of its two ‘experiences’ aimed at primary schools studying the National Curriculum and suitable for Key Stages 1 and 2. Either:

1) The Great Fire and the Great Plague of London Experience
2) The Black Death and the Medieval Experience.

Classes can either enjoy these 'experiences' on one-hour walking tours around the Tower Hill/Monument area – taking in famous, relevant landmarks and meeting humorous, historical characters including Malcolm the cowardly monk and a Plague Doctor – or Tales of Plague will bring either of these remarkable periods of British history into the classroom to entertain and educate children for half or whole school days.

“This was a fantastic experience for the children which put what they had learnt in the classroom into context and brought their learning to life.” Teacher Julia West from Sacred Heart Primary, Barnet following one of our Black Death tours

Flexibility is our watchword, and we like to liaise with schools to deal with any specific requests, but in the past our school day workshop has included: vivid introductions to the study period involving some humorous historical characters such as Alfie the medieval peasant and his pet rat, the wonderfully weird Plague Doctor and Samuel Pepys; a trip to the Plague Doctor's strange surgery to learn about his crazy cures; diary writing classes with Mr Pepys focusing on the Great Plague or the Great Fire; and a live re-enactment of the Great Fire involving the entire class.

"Thank you so much for such a knowledgeable, engaging workshop about the Great Fire of London. The children were mesmerised and it was a wonderful afternoon!"
Teacher Kristie Deal from Northlands Primary, Basildon following our Great Fire & Great Plague workshop

Tales of Plague is a two-person, London-based company and we’re happy to travel to any school within the Greater London area – or host classes from all over the country on our specially designed guided walk.
