All the sessions provide a hands-on investigative approach to history – essential to historical enquiry and understanding – and are fun too! They enhance and support learning in the classroom, bringing the topics alive in an exciting way and making them more accessible to children. The sessions also appeal to a range of abilities and differentiated learning styles.

For the children to be able to touch real artefacts from the periods under study can prove to be an exciting and stimulating experience – and one that they remember for a long time. All the workshops fit in with the requirements of the National History Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2 while offering a cross-curricular approach at the same time.

Choose from:

The Romans
The Anglo-Saxons
The Vikings

Each of these workshops provides ample opportunity to handle, investigate and draw a range of real and replica artefacts including bones, pottery, iron-work, jewellery, coins, and bone utensils (and much more). The inclusion of a helmet and some weaponry (with a surprise attack!) often proves to be the highlight of the workshop and meets with a very enthusiastic response! I can even dress for the occasion – and even better if the children dress up too.

By becoming archaeological detectives, the children learn how the different types of evidence tell us about everyday life in Britain during these periods. They also develop a more informed understanding of what survives in the ground and why – and what does not survive….

Similar archaeological workshops can also be delivered to reveal more on the Medieval Life and the Victorians. Also separate worshops on Old-fashioned School Room (role play) and WWII (including Air Raid). Also Old Fashioned Toys and the Archaeology of the Great Fire of London (KS1)
