Hi there, my name is Gill Cosford and I have been working with Polymer Clay for over 30 years and have been running workshops in schools for nearly 20 years. Polymer Clay is a plastic modelling material which is highly coloured, and is 'oven baked' to permanently harden it. It comes in a wide range of colours and can also be glittery, metallic and can even glow-in-the-dark!! The clay is very clean, so no need for aprons, table cloths or floor coverings. It can be mixed together to make an infinite colour palette, and a wide variety of textures, surface patterns and designs can be added to the clay with the tools and equipment that i provide. I bring everything to your school, all you need to provide is table, chairs and the children.

At present I can only offer one day workshops in the South Yorkshire area, this is due to my other work commitments.

The workshops will be tailor made to meet your exact needs, whether you are needing a piece of art to link up with your national curriculum topic, or you need some artwork to brighten up an uninspiring entrance hall. The children could make items to sell at your Christmas Fete or as part of Enterprise/Business Week. This finished artwork is also suitable for displaying outside...this can really brighten up a dark corner.
All ages and abilities can be catered for, including any children who have additional learning needs...members of staff are also encouraged to participate!! :)

If you have any questions or queries about your project, or are not sure what it is that you need, why not give me a call and we can have a no-obligation chat to discuss your requirements and to give you a rough estimate regarding my fees.
There is more information and photographs on my website, as well as a HOW TO EMPLOY AN ARTIST article which you may find will find all this at

Wisewood Primary School - Sheffield
What was the most successful aspect of the artist's input?
There were many successful aspects;

Enthusiasm, knowledge, organisation, communication, relationship with the class—every child got an equal share of the experience and their artistic imput was valued.

Gill was able to make each child feel their ideas and designs were of importance, in particular how the collaboration of ideas can make something truly wonderful! It was great to see the children glowing with pride when they returned with their finished piece. I’d so love to have Gill in again (and I’m working on it!). Even if a whole school project doesn’t materialise, because Gill is so versatile I’m sure I will find an opportunity in my next year group to invite her in!
