Hello! I’m Rachel Shilston of Inspiring Creativity and I deliver a variety of inclusive, collaborative and fun art workshops that will inspire your pupils and staff.
One of the most popular mediums I offer is mosaic, a perfect project that allows the entire school community to contribute. Mosaic workshops can be tailor-made to suit the needs of the individual school and are suitable for all ages and abilities. You can choose to create a lasting artwork as a whole-school project or just sample a taster session to help embed history, maths and literacy skills. Anything is possible!

Roman- themed Workshop
This lasts about one and a half hours and the pupils will learn a little about the history of Roman mosaics, then go on to create their own mosaic coaster using beautiful glass tiles. They will also have the opportunity to make a second mosaic using less ‘conventional’ materials. I also provide Roman worksheets as filler activities, for those faster workers.

Collaborative Mosaic Projects.
These can be made by individual classes or as a whole-school project. They can be any size that you wish and can also be created in any shape. Mosaics can be designed for interior or exterior and can be installed on the wall or floor.
School logos and values are common imagery to represent in mosaic, but also ‘Arts Week’ or curriculum topics are also popular. Mosaic projects can be flexible and bespoke, catering for any timescale or budget.

Mural and Mosaic Combinations.
Get you pupils designing and painting a mural and add mosaic details to finish the look. This is a lovely way of adding interest and texture to a mural and any theme or topic can be created. All tuition supplied- just get in touch for a quote.

I also deliver mural and mixed media wall hanging projects too, which are another way of involving lots of pupils on one, collaborative artwork.

What’s provided?
For short workshops, I arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the start time to set up. I provide all materials and equipment, plus floor and table coverings if appropriate.
For larger mosaic projects, I arrange a convenient time to meet with a staff member prior to the project, to talk through requirements and take a look at possible locations around the school. I then provide a sketch and quote based on the ideas discussed. Again, I arrive early to set up and all materials and equipment is provided.

Fees:
Fees vary depending on whether I’m hired for a full day, half day or for a one-off workshop. Please contact me for a quote.

About me:
I am a trained art teacher, but am now a full-time freelance artist and creative facilitator, based in my studio at Hanley Farm near Lydney, in the beautiful Forest of Dean. I have many years’ experience in running a variety of art workshops, classes and projects to people of all ages and abilities. I can deliver projects in most art forms but specialise in mosaic, mural and textiles.
