Hi! I'm Tony North, and since 2004 I've been delivering arts-based KS2 workshops in the North West of England. My Time Trips workshops use superb hands-on creative activities carefully designed and refined over years to be enjoyable and educational. You will be amazed by the resources, the quality of children's artistic outcomes, and the learning value of the games and activities.

The workshop topics I currently cover and their activities are:
Science:
-Rocks and fossils (handle and learn how to identify 8 rocks, see dinosaur fossils, do a fossil hunt, identify and draw fossils, paint fossil casts)
-Fossils and bones (handle fossils, play a name the fossil game, paint fossil casts, make life-size dinosaur skeleton pictures including a 12m long T rex - no, really!)
-Evolution (learn about adaptation, the tree of life, inheritance and natural selection through lots of hands-on activities, games, models, fossils, and films)

History:
-Ancient Egyptians (paint statues and papyrus pictures, make jewellery, dress up, write hieroglyphs on papyrus, do experiments to learn how the pyramids were built, make scale model of Giza pyramids)
-Ancient Greeks (make model of the Parthenon, make Greek art - paint statues, clay tiles and Minoan frescoes, do a Greek myth play with costumes and props provided, make Greek helmets and shields, reenact the battle of Marathon)
-Ancient Romans and Celts (make mosaics with glass tiles, make metal art with embossing foil, make a Roman town with card nets)
-Anglo-Saxons (make helmets and shields, make jewellery with foil)

Check out the website, timetrips.co.uk, to see lots of photos, detailed lesson plans, and reviews from teachers and children, as well as lots of pages on various topics for children to learn more.

In spite of the excellent quality of the resources I charge much less than the average workshop - only £249 per day (for the 2016-2017 school year). This is because I work for myself, and so there is no VAT and no company to take a cut. Also I only drive up to 1 hour from Manchester which reduces travel costs a lot.

I have more than 20 years' experience working with children, as well as a Masters in Education and a Masters in Developmental Psychology. I taught history at secondary level for 2 years and have a strong interest in and knowledge of the history and science subjects I teach.

Here is a sample of teacher comments:
'We thoroughly enjoyed the Egyptian Workshop yesterday. It allowed those less academic children to shine and excel and express themselves through creative art. The work the children produced was to a very high standard and all children made something and were involved.
I have shown the History leader our work and she was very impressed.' - teacher at Brandwood Primary in Bolton

'Tony is a great teacher, extremely passionate and knowledgeable about history. Your class will thoroughly enjoy the 'hands on' approach to learning that Tony provides. The sessions offer great value for money and can all be easily set up within the safety of your own classroom. The children wrote some lovely recounts from the Roman day and they were very complimentary of the amount of fun and learning they experienced.'
-teacher at Tithe Barn Primary, Stockport

'Mr North has just delivered the 'Evolution' workshops (Adaptation and Natural Selection) to my class and they were both fantastic. Mr North's impressive subject knowledge combined with his extensive range of resources enabled him to engage and motivate all pupils from the start. The activities were highly interactive and fun and pupils were really challenged to think deeply about this complex topic of evolution. Effective questioning and dialogue enhanced the learning at all times throughout the sessions and the great organisation meant the active learning time was maximised. I cannot recommend these workshops highly enough as Mr North is truly an expert on the topic.' - teacher at St. Richard's RC Primary, Manchester

'We would like to thank Tony North for an amazing workshop and insight into the lives of the Anglo-Saxons. The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and made some very impressive artefacts of an unbelievably high standard. The level of detail that goes into the craftwork is outstanding. The children were so proud and were truly amazed at what they had managed to produce.

The session was well prepared, structured and implemented and Tony North made it look effortless. The quality of the shields, helmets and jewellery is exceptional. We will definitely be contacting Time Trips again in the future and would highly recommend this workshop for upper Key Stage 2 pupils.' - teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary, Bury
