MAYPOLE DANCING:
Maypole dance workshops are an excellent introduction to British values and dance history, combined with physical recreation, teamwork and a lot of fun creating patterns and shapes with brightly-coloured ribbons!
Alison will provide the maypole and exciting recorded music to dance to. A live musician can also be arranged, and Alison is a talented folk fiddle player herself. Workshops can take place indoors or outside (weather-permitting), and can include a performance to the school and/or parents at the end.

COUNTRY DANCING:
Often a great addition to the maypole sessions, this introduces students to a wider spectrum of traditional British dances. A variety of formations and steps make this suitable for a range of ages and abilities.
You can choose to focus on dances from a particular area (e.g. Scotland) or explore dances from the whole of the British Isles.

TUDOR DANCING:
Alison will teach a variety of dances from all tiers of Tudor society, accompanied by suitable music to inspire your students.
Participants will also have the opportunity to learn Tudor songs, and watch a live performance of Tudor recorder music. Alison can dress in Tudor attire, and this could be an opportunity for your students to engage with the Tudor period by dressing as a Tudor too!

SEA SHANTIES:
Seafarers shaped the development of the modern world and their songs provide a snapshot of their lives, from romantic entanglements to captain brutality to a longing for home. They often rely strongly on call and response with a very strong rhythm, which makes sea shanties perfect for younger students.

Alison Rowley is a Bristol-based professional musician, composer and workshop leader with a Music degree from the University of Cambridge. Her workshops can be tailored and combined to suit your needs, and as a talented folk fiddle player she can provide students with an engaging introduction to folk music and dance.
